Hi Folks

Building a mild 340 for the street. Auto transmission with OEM 3 core rad. Is there any benefit going with the Flowkooler and hi flow thermostat or am I wasting my money?

I assume that they are made to better standards, and I don't want to put crap on the engine.

BTW.......Any suggestions on temp range for the thermostat?

I run a Flowkooler pump and a Stant high flow thermostat, all was installed when I had overheating issues with my 340. The problem was my electric fans.

That being said the pump is 16 years old and has been on three engines. My current 434 never goes over 185 in the hottest weather. Does the pump help? I’ll say it doesn’t hurt.
 
A factory shroud, 7 blade fan and good operating t-stat, should be suffice.
Edit ** and good rad** obviously.

I had a flow killer pump once. It helped cool a boarder line engine overheating issue.
(The real fix was a decided radiator.)
The plate was riveted to the pumps blades and rusted out causing problems. I used a 50/50 collect mix. Flow Kooled was super rude and nasty. I’ll not go there again.

I was having overheating issues and did a lot of things to fix it, two of them being a flowkooler and a milodon high flow thermostat. Those two seemed to give a lot more water flow at idle. When the cap is off, you can see the water is really moving through the radiator. Not sure how much contribution either one makes, but my problem is solved. One of my friends claims that same combination solved his big block overheating issues. Probably not needed if you are not having issues, but an option.

I run a Flow cooler pump om my 340 and have no issues BUT I also added a Cold Case aluminum radiator with a shroud at the same time. I run a 195 degree thermostat and haven't had any overheating issues
 
I don't anticipate overheating issues, but I've always been a bit of an overkill guy. I just wanted to use something high quality. I bought a new regular pump and thermostat from Rock Auto but haven't installed it yet. I have a newly recored 3 core OEM rad, a factory shroud, and have to decide whether to run a fixed 7 blade, or a clutch seven blade. I have both.
 
Never ran a flowkooler just always used a Gates “43026P” 8-vane w/plate (also sold under various branding) There’s the Milodon version also. Any of those are about it for a stock appearing higher volume pump Or you could try the PRW or identical CVF version (available on EBay even cheaper) which are quality copies of the Edelbrock pump. I like that the impeller fills the smaller sized cavity and that you can install plugs in place of the bypass/heater hose fittings.

Driver side or passenger side water pump inlet?
 
My Flowkooler pump lasted less then a year starting leaking bad.
Replaced with a New one from Napa
Engine runs about 5 degrees cooler
Been going good for 6 months
Time will tell...
BTW. Mine is a cast iron drivers side inlet
With a milodon 180 t-stat

Pick a new water pump that has the best warranty.
That is made in the USA.
I would not use some dime store pump that you got from the local auto parts convenience store that was rebuilt God know's where.
 
i've used milidon 8 vane pump with a 190 thermostat big clutch fan and factory shroud factory rad or 3 core champion made no dif always ran under 190 . Had to send back 2 parts store pumps after 2 months of use made noise and leahed
 
Alright with all that's been said here. The reason I was looking at the flow kooler is they have a pump that has the inlet on the driver side.
Is there anyone that makes a pump that has the inlet on the driver side?
