I just got back from our local junkyard and found what I thought was a driver side 340 manifold and was going to use it on my 360.

The casting number is 3614395 and various web sites show this as a 1971-1973 340 manifold. I had a list with me when I found it.

But I have seen other folks say it is a 318 manifold....which is it and where is the bible of casting numbers found?

I used a list on MyMopar.com

Thanks much!

My casting numbers list show 3614395 as a 73-74 318 LH manifold.
The 340 manifold is 2863553 for 68-71 340 LH for A body.
72-74 was 3614368 for 340 and 360's, these can be found on late production '71 as I have seen cast dates as early as May 13 1971.

My numbers are from Galen Govier's parts and numbers casting book.
And I also checked my personal exhaust manifold.

So I was surfing around and found this excerpt from an article....very interesting...

Excerpt from the Mopar Muscle test on a 300 HP crate 360

Log 318 manifolds

For our baseline test, we fitted the 360 with the lowest of exhaust low, a set of stock small-passage 318 iron exhaust manifolds. Bolted to the manifolds was a set of 21/4-inch head pipe extensions 24 inches long. So equipped, the 360 put out a respectable 311 hp at 4,600 rpm and 403 lb-ft of torque

Log 360 manifolds

We moved up a notch from the early 318 iron manifolds to late 360 iron log-style manifolds. The 360 manifolds are nothing to look at, but the internal passages and outlet are significantly larger than those of the 318 pieces. Power was up a little, moving to 314 hp and 407.1 lb-ft of torque.

340 Hi-Po manifolds

Our final test of factory iron was a set of rare and expensive early 340 high-performance manifolds. With the 340 exhaust, the 360 inched up to 315 hp and 409.1 lb-ft of torque, which represented very little gain on this engine.

Really not a lot of gain using the 340 manifolds for the cost involved.....if true.

I'm just wondering, since I don't want to use headers....if it's worth it to try and get 340 manifolds or use my 318's?

The 318 - #395 manifold was in service in 1972 as well.

The link you posted also shows mine as a 340....and the confusion continues.....or for me, just another day...lol

Brian,

It's NOT a 340 manifold. No confusion at all. Some of the internet references are wrong, just like the stupid 8.75" rear end length chart for A and B bodies. Don't believe everything on the net.

My data comes from the 1972 Chrysler Parts books which I think is a more authoritative source than some list compiled on the internet or even Galens books (which as noted, have many errors in them).

So this is good.....I pop the hood on my 318 Duster and what do I find...the same exhaust manifold I just got at the junkyard that I thought was a 340.....now that is funny/stupid.

Whaddya gonna do....live and learn....

Thanks for the help!
