I have a 73' 340 for my Demon. From what I know these are externally balanced engines. I have pulled the oil pan off to check the crank and it didn't look good! There was rust and some pitting. I need to get a new crank, but I was wondering can I make this an internally ballanced engine? If so what do I need to change. When I bought the car the motor was just put in the car for looks and thrown together from parts. Well sort of there was the block with crank, rods and pistons. he put on a set of heads and intake no pushrods. Any info would be great!

Hey Matt. You can internally balance this engine. Save or sell the balancer to someone who needs it if you do not want to keep it. This one year only engine (Sometimes seen in a '72 from what I hear) is a pain to find a balancer and flywheel for us manual trans guys.

Roll the money over into a new balancer for internal balanced engines and if it is a manual trans car, you'll need a standard flywheel. If an auto. trans car, a standard torque converter to suite the stall needs is it. Flex plate is also just a regular part.

The machine shop will take care of the rest. Sorry I can not clue you in on what they will do and charge to make it so. Everyshop differes a bit in price.

Take a good look at the crank,if the engines a mash of parts someone may have put a forged crank already if your lucky,if not good used forged cranks are realtively inexpensive and easy to come by (I just sold one on e-bay for $185 shipped). It would problay be the same or cheaper than the mallory required to balance a cast crank neutral, but as mentioned you will need a internal style balancer and flexplate/flywheel.
