Hey guys i was eonderingnif someone could help me decode my engine block. I know its an 85 360, but id like to know what type of pistons(hyper, cast, forged) are in it factory, what comp ratio, etc. i cant seem to find any info on these "LA" motors after 1978.

The number on the side of the block is:
4179930-360-5(1975-1993 360)

The front pad numbers are the ones im interested in. They are:
4K 360 8097 1
013857
263

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can u decode it and see what you come up with? My casting date is * 16 83 and this thing is telling me its a 74?

Is this motor full of cast parts from the factory? Why cant i find any info on any of these motors after 78?

To find out what year it is, check the partial VIN # stamped above the oil pan on the passenger side. The first number in that is the model year for the vehicle the engine came in.

The 5 at the end of the casting number is irrelevant to you, it refers to a mold not a year....

The casting date for the block is on the passenger side of the block (oil filter side) above the clock. that is when the block was cast at the foundry.
