In the middle of a 360 magnum/42rh swap in a 67 Dart. Thought I was getting a 46rh, but turns out the donor had a 42rh. The 360 came out of a 1999 dodge 4wd truck. I have the torque converter and the flex plate. The transmission donor was a 1993 dodge 150 2wd. Turns out it had a 42rh. My question is, what torque converter do I use. The one that came on the 360, the one from the 318, or neither. Trying to keep cost down do prefer to use one I have if I can.

I recently did a 727 to a 46rh swap for my 5.9/360 magnum 67 dart. My 46rh transmission came from a 2wheel drive 5.9/360 magnum Dakota. I made sure to get everything transmission associated with it when I bought it including the magnum flex plate and torque converter. When I removed the 727 I put the neutral balance flex plate and weighted torque converter that was with it together to store. I used the 5.9 magnum weighted flex plate and the converter that came with the 46rh for the upgrade. You’ll want to use the 5.9/360 magnum weighted flex plate and the overdrive/lockup converter that came with your 42rh because your 5.9/360 magnum is externally balanced and the converter is specific to that transmission.
Others may chime in with more to add if I’ve missed anything.
There are quite a few threads with great info if you do a quick search.
Good luck.
