360 Stock Cam Spec's.?

-
Same as the 340 engine it replaced - besides the '68 4-speed cam.
NHRA/IHRA specs are not necessarily OEM.

Original is at LA - Chrysler small block V8 engines http://www.allpar.com/mopar/318.html#ixzz2NcQQB0eO

OK I know this is old, but I'm dragging it back out cause I don't believe a 1979 van 360 4bbl has a 430/444 cam. Right?

Easier to read version:

They really put some small camshafts in the 360 starting in the mid '70s, in order to meet smog requirements. In California, where I live, can you believe that they even had to add an air pump to the 252/252, .410/.410 cam in order to make it meet smog! However, I have found empirically that a California LA motor with an air pump will pass smog with a Mope Perf P4452759 dual-pattern cam, which has a duration of 260/268 and lift of .430"/.450". That's still a pretty small cam, but it runs quite a bit better than the 252/252 with only .410 lift.

From Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler Police Cars, 1979-1994 Sanow, Bellah and Govier:

"as a comparison, the 1974-6 E58 4 BBL HP cam has a lift of .429 (I) and .444 (E) and 268 duration. This is Mopar cam #4214671. The 1977-80 360 4 BBL cam was a bit milder due to the emissions crunch. They had the same specs for both intake and exhaust at a .410 in lift and 252 degree duration."

So looks like by 1977 the .430/.444 cam was gone.

remember that mopar duration is by the unique mopar method
It's close to .008 but not really the same as a .008 ENGLE as the ramps are much longer
so much longer than a comp measured at .006 and much much longer than a Crane/ SAE Summit etc measured at .004 (006 at the valve x rocker ratio for a mopar)

I know old thread. But I had to disagree with this last statement that said that by 1977 the .430/ .444 cam was gone. That cam was still being used in the E58 engines in the1980s.

Okie dokie. I'll write Sanow, Bellah and Govier and let them know they screwed me. :poke:
:thankyou:

Sorry... I wasn't a salesman in 74, I was 7 years old. I ain't up on which version of which engine was available in a given chassis in a given year... And in 50 years who knows if that engine is the original untouched engine as originally built.... Could have been a /6 car with an engine swapped in our if who knows what, 10 times over since then... And Ive never had my hands on a factory original 360 4 bbl engine, only ones that have been swapped from a 2 bbl ...
But what I do know is that the 360-2 cam is dead nuts exactly what a COMP 252 is except for a few thousandths different lift. A cam I've used in a few 318s over the years.
