360 water jacket plugs?

Trying to figure out what the bolts on each side of block located about center on both sides of block are for. I know that they are plugs for the water jackets. Anyone know what these are for?

They are essentially drain plugs. When you drain your radiator it does not get all the water out of the entire cooling system. Those can be pulled to drain the water out of the block. Some simply install petcocks (like a radiator) in there to make that job very easy. (which i'll be doing on my 360)

Thats basically what they are for.

...And many times, they are blocked with leftover casting core sand. So you pull them out, and nothing happens. Drive a punch thru the sand, they are the lowest point in the cooling jackets.

It's just sludge build it up, the blocks are clean after all of the machining process.
