I have a 1973 Dodge Dart, I pull a after market wiring harness out of it because the way it was installed was all bad. I reinstalled a factory wording harness got everything working, started the engine and put it in gear and it kills the motor so I checked the wiring harness to the neutral safety switch and its not hooked up tore the steering column sort and nothing their shouting the motor off any idea what would cause this problem? :?

Hook a test lamp or meter to the coil positive terminal

Turn the key to run/ engine off. You should get "some" voltage, might be low, 6-8 volts

Now put the trans in gear and see if the voltage goes away.

If so, you know you have a wiring problem.

If the voltage remains, you have other problems, like maybe idle speed/ mixture adjustment or timing
