I'm about to embark on a 371 (.060" 360) build with the vaunted Hughes CNC machined Edelbrock Big-Mouth heads. I say vaunted because they were VERY disappointing on the flow bench if I'm looking at flow rates and the numbers themselves. I still do not understand why Hughes completely removes the shortside on these heads. I will post the full flow chart later but the heads flowed a peak of 284-285 cfm with a lot of "help".

371 .060 Icon flat tops. 10.8-11.0 comp
Eagle steel 3.58 w/Armour shield
Scat 6.123 I-beams
Total Seal gapless top 1/16"-3/16" ring pack
Eddy BigMouse heads 63 cc chambers 2.08/1.6
Eddy SuperVictor intake ported
Hughes .350" offset rockers 1.6/1.6
Big bad custom Comp cam solid flat nitrided 251/255 106 .600"

This will be tested in the next two-three weeks. I really don't want to bad mouth the big mouths until I know because even with 280+cfm they may produce serious power. I've done 2.27 HP/cfm with Edelbrock castings before so who knows? I'm looking for well over 500 HP @ 6800 rpm+ to consider this build a success. What say FABO?

BigMouths cut to 63CC. J.Rob

I actually don't mind the cam. Especially if the lift is .600 with a 1.5 which would mean you'd have .640 gross and about .620 net. If it's .600 on the 1.6's it's still not bad on lift.

If I was using those heads and cam I would want 550hp out of that combo, those heads are marketed as something that will make 600hp on a 4 inch stroke small block.
If it you don't make a least 500hp I would be returning them back to Hughes.

This is intresting! Please keep us updated on this. Sometimes CFM are not everything and i believe that sometimes a larger and slightly slower port may have its advantages:)

Very true. A good big port is better than a good small port any day if the shape is correct.

Nice cam. Shouldn't do less than mid 500's.

wow, the flow #'s are not even close from Hughes website.

.400 lift= 279 cfm
.450 lift= 292
.500 lift= 305
.550 lift= 308
.600 lift= 312
.650 lift= 316
.700 lift= 320

i was looking a buying a set. i will wait to see your results.

is there a reason why you are running a solid flat instead of a solid roller?

another awesome thread . this will be very interesting to see how the BM heads will perform I would be disappointed with anything less than 580 hp if I spent the cash to buy them .

Those are W-2 like numbers with a port not nearly as good. I'd rather see how the port does backwards and then see what it does with a steeper seat.

Wait 'till I get to the shop and post my flow results. Solid flat for reliability and dependable power production. J.Rob

i like that it's a stock stroke and solid flat tappet cam. not very many non strokers being built nowadays

This will be super interesting for sure. I haven't been this interested since the first time I ran my W2's. The money I spent on these and the rockers with the exchange was dear to say the least. Ain't no way this build will make 580HP but I agree with you. J.Rob

If you didn't already know, I'm not the biggest fan of the 4" crank . The 360 with it's 4" x 3.58" dimensions seem to be just about perfect IMO. J.Rob

I'm not a fan of 4 inch arms either. I'd rather have a 4.150 bore are a 3.700ish stroke.

You seriously a fly on my wall? I'm currently in process of building a B-block 4.185" x 3.75" 413 cube, solid flat, 10.75 comp, TrickFlow 240PP heads etc.... It's gonna be a revver. J.Rob

I'm about to build a 360 magnum stock stroke.... just need to pick heads so I'm watching this close.

i'm in need of heads and slightly bigger cam for my 360. this is almost the exact build i wanted to do so i'm excited to see the results.
