383 oil pan and pickup tube?

I think the stamped numer is "187" in the pan bottom. '67ish to '69 C body pans have a notch to clear the earlier stud mounted idler arms on the C bodies..they fit perfect on A bodies running the later bolt on idler arm and a /6 centerlink. IIRC, V8 centerlinks clear the std pass car pans..

Yea the 187 and 699 are the way to go and there is another one that'll work to. Either way unless you plan on changing the front steering linkage you need the pan with the notch, on the drivers side of the pan, to clear the idler arm. The 187 however may not come with either a sump front or rear baffle but you can fabricate your own and have them welded in, I did. :evil2:

:notworth: :thumblef: Thanks for the info!! Hey Demon, it's a /6. Using Shumak's and /6 K-mem. It's a 74', so all the suspension and steering linkage are the same as a 318 car. So, which pan would be best? How would I use these numbers(187 & 699) to obtain a pan. What do they mean? Are there aftermarket pans available or do I have to find one in a boneyard? Damn... that was a lot of questions?

I found my 187 at a wrecker. The 187 is stamped into the pan and the numbers are 2 inches big and are the last 3 numbers in the Mopar P/N. The later model land yachts 72-76 (I think) used them with the 400 and 440's. I used the Schmacher system to put my 383 in the 71 demon and it works fine especially the Tri-Y headers. There's also a section of their website that talks specifically about the 187 and 699 oil pans. I'd also recommend using the Milodon windage tray on that engine.

Good Luck :burnout:

:thumblef: Nice picture!! What did you use for your radiator & transmission cooler? BTW thanks for the quick response to the last post.

The rad I had left over from a 69 Super Bee that needed an aluminum unit, to much horsepower does that, and the trans cooler is a big one from B+M.
