4 speed casting # question

New to the site..Don't know how to start with question so here goes..Is there any way to tell information on a 4-speed by outside casting or s/n on the case?

Count input splines, 18 is a hemi trans, 23 is bread and butter.
Lots of cases, short, long, and output flange.
Also the OD boxes with aluminum cases in short and long.
Then ratios, put it in each gear and count input shaft rotation to output shaft rotation.
There are about 5 different ratio sets.
