4 speed over drive

i am curious about some sort of od for my scamp 4 speed. like maby a newer 5 speed trany? i wanna stay away from a tremec to stay all mopar but i dont know whats out there. i am not sure if i will need it yet but want to start research now. thanks

Mopar produced a OD version of the A833, it would be a direct bolt in to your Scamp. You will find the tranny in mid 70's A-bodies and F-bodies.

is it a 5 speed thing or 4 speed?

It's a 3 speed with 4th being an overdrive(some were a .76 o/d)

Apart from Tremec the only other option is a 5-speed from a truck, but those are either weak (Dakota) or heavy with really wide ratios (Ram). The OD 4-speeds really aren't bad and would be the easiest and cheapest swap.

I remember one of the guys in my mopar club had an AMC with a 304. He wanted to put a 5 speed in it and ended up fitting a Borg Warner 5 speed. Said it was damn near a direct bolt in. I think it was from a Mustang or something. Seeing as how AMC uses the same bell housing pattern as Mopar this might work. Sorry,dont know where he is anymore.

has anyone used the richmond rod 6 speed one? i know it is a pretty penny but if i am gonna get one like that i want the best
