can anyone identify this harmonic balancer? it's on a 69 HP 440 casting date 2-21-69 but i was wondering if it was a cast crank balancer because of the drillings in it? i guess it's also possible that it's may be a 6 pack balancer.

the motor has been fitted with a later timing cover and i thought possibly someone changed it so the timing marks would line up

any ideas?

I know it should have a forged crank and neutral balance damper but would it have drillings on it if it was for a forged crank? I can't see a part no - is it on the motor side of the damper? I don't have a removal tool handy at the moment so i can't check that.

It looks like a 72-75 forged crank balance with the blue paint and the pulley holes look evenly spaced. The cast balancer would have an elliptical weight on the front. If the pulley can go on without having to line it up with one particular hole then it`s post 71 I believe.

If your engine is a true 69 440 HP it may have the six pack rods which would have been externally balanced and require a unique balancer made for that particular rod/piston combo. The 6-pack balancer will have an elliptical weight on the balancer similar to the cast crank balancer. I would find out what the internals of the engine are first and then you can fit the appropriate balancer to it.
