Off forum a bit.

I have a 2000 Dakota 4.7 4x4 auto.45RFEauto.

1) will that trans bolt up to a (1974)LA 318 if need be? Possibly a flex plate conversion.
2) does any one make a stand alone PCM for that trans so I can run carb engine?
Thanks-Joe

Not unless you are building a 4wd. Duster. "Bolting up" and working without completely reengineering are 2 different things. What are you planning to do?

Ah Mike ya got me. Planning on Armageddon!

nah - 2000 dakota with 4.7 and electrical issues. Keeps taking out the same coils and wiring and computer (#3) are all good. 150k so she’s getting tired too. The Truck is too clean to dispose of so I have a very low mileage 318 from a 74’Dart I can swap in - if possible. If too complicated the 4.7 will be replaced. Just looking to see if I can repurpose an engine right now collecting dust.

SHould be the same as installing a Magnum in front of a 904 only opposite. Good luck.

Thank you. I was not sure of 4.7 has the small block bolt pattern or not.
I am getting Monday off and plan to investigate more on compression and leak down test to see if coil issues are actually mechanical issues. I tested the coil and injectors. 22 year old farm truck. Just hate to put it down. I will know more on Monday.

Not sure I would dump the trans unless you can get a good price for it used, and who knows?
But most of the stuff inside will help you if you happen to find a 2wd trans that "needs parts." I'm nto sure, but I think only one shaft and the tail housing would be different, everything else being "equal."

The 4.7 does have the same pattern as small block and gen 3 hemi. BUT, the offset at the rear flange is different from small block to 4.7/gen 3. ATI and Bouchillon have adapter flexpltes for this, BUT, they do Not have the ring gear on the plate for the RFE. Only designed for older Torqueflites.

Hmmmm. That makes me just want to not do it right there. All that work and still not controller for transmission.
Thank you.

Most of the electrical issues can be fixed by repairing the wiring under the drivers side front fender/rocker panel. U will be suprized how many issues go away. Kim
