'489 gear set swap?

I was wondering, I've got a set with 39/7 teeth (5.57s), and I see the 3.55s have 39/11. Could I just swap the pinion, or doesn't it work that way? Also, what would that do to my backlash? I assume I'd have to set it up again.

That's why they call them gear"sets." They wear together, so mixing and matching different sets will most likely cause accelerated wear and premature failure.

I just missed out on a set of used 3.55s, and was wondering if it was possible. I guess you're right, once it's apart, what's the big deal of swapping the ring gear as well.
