hi all.....i'm from new zealand and own a 1970 chrysler wayfarer utility (pickup) and am looking at dropping a 5.7 or 6.1 carbureted hemi into her using the existing 727. no problems with emisions here. have been looking at XV motorsorts and there drop in crate engine options. has anyone used them before. with the 5.7 or 6.1 is one better than the other.
a guy i talked to the other day said that the modern hemi has a week bottom end. any advice here would be much appreciated. cheers andyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXagu2lSkZ0

i have just read the posts on carbureted hemi and like what i see. i have found a chap here that has a 08 magnum 5.7 and a 08 charger 5.7 both low miles. which of the two is the better one if at all. cheers

ok, should have read the other topics before i asked the question. have done so and am ipressed with with the info and projects.
am going to go with a carbureted 5.7.and use the 727 i already have. will fabricate my own headers. will get the msd hemi 6 and harness, XV flex plate, indy intake, and i have off my 360 a 750 mighty demon.
i have the option of 3 engines to choose from
1. 08 cherger 5.7 2135 miles
2. 08 magnum 5.7 113500 miles
3. 05 dodge 5.7 8000 miles

1 & 2 i understand have the mds and need to change lifters etc. not sure about the 05.

i would like to get as much as i can out of the 5.7 so will be looking at cam change etc. input here on cam, converter, or any other mods/improvemnts like timing, chain sump and pickup, oil pump etc.
the engine will be sorsed locally but all other parts i will be importing from the US.
cheers.

ps . can anyone recomend a good photo island so i can upload pics of the build progress.

IMO I would get either 1 or 3, dosen't matter which, they are both the same. You do not have to change lifters unless you are doing a cam change, just leave the solenoids in. You will need a new oil pan and pickup, check Milodon or Canton. Shop around ( XV is pricey ) check Street & Performance, Boucillon performance. A lot of guy's use Photobucket to host pic's. Good luck.

cheers tincup ...option 1 and 3 are similar price. more concerned as to how genuine the miles are.
checked out S&P and yes they are cheaper.
cheers
