If I have a 05 5.7 but want to switch it to a 06-08 coil set up, what does it take?

Valve covers and coils. The coil plugs might need to be changed as well but I'm not 100% on that I think it might just be moving the terminal in the plug itself. I would be interested in your old covers if they are the metal ones.

So... Coils, and valve covers... I dont understand about the plugs, like harness connectors, or as in sparkplug boots?

Johnparts,

If I go that way I will give you a heads up on the metal valve covers... Got some later ones?

JOE

I have a single plastic one for the dual coils.

For sure you need the plastic 06+ covers, the dual coils and the harness plugs for the new coils.

Thanks. I may take that cover off your hands if I can find 1 not a set... I will PM you and we can figure something out.

I plan to use the FAST system for wiring/ECM, so Ineed to figure out if it uses the factory engine harness, or I ust say what yr I have or need. Who knows.

on the coil conversion, look up henson motors in henderson texas. Call the parts department and ask for a guy named art. Tell him your wanting the coil conversion kit to convert the 03-05 to the 06 and up. It sells for less than 400. You will get the coils valve covers and new coil pack wire harness plugs. Then you must cut the plugs off of an existing harness and install the new ones. And everything else is a direct bolt on swap.

the fast system has it's own wiring harness and you have to specify what year coils you have because they have 2 different harness kits. You will also get a throttle body that has a tps and an IAC that is specific to the fast system But the are gm items that can be purchased at a parts store if they fail.

I believe that the 2009+ valve covers are a 1/4 inch taller than the 06-08's. This is due to the longer valves that the 09 eagle heads have. So they may not seal at the plugs. The coil packs may be different as well. Not a 100% sure on this, but, it may be something to take into consideration and look into.

I would be sure that I got the 06-08 covers and coils to avoid any sealing issues.

From my understanding the eagle valve covers are taller in the valve area and no where else and can be used on the older heads. I had to use a set when we did the double spring conversion on 6.1 heads because those use a taller valve as well and we didn't have any sealing issues.

Good to know... Just would hate for someone to find out the hard way and have a negative expierience. A vendor at the LXForums noted that the 09 covers were taller but did not specify where or note any interchangeability.

Thanks.

well in refrence to my post, you will be getting the 06-08 valve covers if you call henson motors for the conversion. the 09 and up stuff would not come into play when your talking about wanting to convert your 03-05 motor. as art is a really smart guy. and can get you the correct parts. he sells a bunch of stuff on ebay and though a few other forums that i am on. he is about the pnly dealer parts guy i would trust to get parts for me.

Thanks guys!
03Ramit1 I will give your guy a call for the valve covers coils. Thanks, that sounds like a much better deal than the dealer...

johnparts Thanks for the info on FAST, saves me a phone call... and helps me plan.

This site rocks!

JOE

man the best part is that henson motors is a dealer. They just sell them at great prices. I can order parts from them and have then shipped to me cheaper than I can pick them up locally
