Hey Guy's--Thinking of pulling out the 5.7 and stroking it this winter,Anyone here done that yet????? Just wandering what I could expect as far as HP and TQ out of it.If you did who's gear did you go with K1 or Manley???? Steve

Talk with stu at inertia motorsports. He can set you up with everything you need. I have been using him for years. Great guy to work with. And knows the Hemi well. He can get you the parts or ship a built short block if you would rather go that way. HP and TQ will depend on the combo you going to port the heads? Change valves? What compression? Si you want a 370, 383, 392, 400 cubic inch? All this will move around the HP numbers. My motor will be a low compression 370 and should make between 1200-1400 to the wheels on 20-25psi. The motor N/A will probably be about 600HP at the flywheel when done. With the right set up I think you could see close to 700 at the flywheel if you build a full race motor with all the tricks. but that would have to be a really high compression (race gas only) motor with a huge cam and really good flowing 09+ heads.

Swifter why not just buy a supercharger kit?? it might be cheaper and you'd have a tame motor when you want it and a monster when you stomp on it. JMO
Edelbrock just came out with thier supercharger kit, supposed to be the same supercharger that is on the ZR1 vette and Caddy.

412 Stroker--Thanks for the comments on my Duster in Memikes signs the wall thread-Hope sometime we can hook up and go for a ride.We are a hour away from each other--Steve

Yea--$5000.00 min on the supercharger kit,Would rather have the cubes and bulletproof bottom end,Have a good engine builder here by me and owes me some work.03rqmit--So what crank di you go with--Manley or k1????? and why--Steve

I don't have a crank yet. We are still in the planing stages of myotor build my car is about 1 to 2 years out from even being able to start. Currently we are building a custom intake and then the hot side of the exhaust. But chat with stu he has put together many motors and can tell you what to expect for power. My motor will ultimately be built with the who ever has the strongest parts at the time.

Most of the builds I've seen were + 50 rwhp on the top (some more), and +75 rwlb/ft torque across the curve down lower. This would be a conservative estimate, but time and again, that's what guys on LX forums saw. This is assuming a 5.7 to 392 build. The K1 stuff should be GTG, but I'll have to check again with my guys who have built a few dozen of these which crank usually requires the least amount of heavy metal to balance (though I recall them saying they all require more than the 6.1 factory cranks).

I'd say 500 rwhp would be a good goal for a 392 stroker, assuming ported heads, good cam, etc.

I'd call up flatlander- they have a k1 kit with bearings and all for $1969, add balancing for $299. That's tough to beat.

Steve, yep we need to get together, obviously next year as time has run out this year. Good luck on your stroker build, did that to my 360 a year ago. if I had it to do again, I would have went with a hemi 6.1 I have a 5.7 in my 07 charger, the new Hemi's are THE Mopar alternative to the LSX, and eventually will replace the LA motors just like the LSX's have replaced the 350/400's IMO.

Lol I just wish we had the support the LSx has. That would be nice.
It's getting better, just remember the LS motors have been out since 1997 and the gen III hemi has only been out since 2003. 7 years is a long time for the aftermarket to come up with upgrades/hp parts

Lol but the LSx had aftermarket support the day it rolled off the assembly line. It's GM everyone supports it. They probably had the support we have now the day it was available for sale. That's just how it goes. Here we are 7 years (actually 8model years) after the Hemi release and we are Judy now gaining support. But mopars are the red headed step children of the big three so mo real surprise there.

A guy at the track has a 08 chally with a 6.1 and a belt driven blower that fits under the stock hood. It also has head work and a cam and long tube headers. Street car with 78K miles. Says it has 500 HP at the wheels and with a lousey burnout (no traction off the line) it still runs a 7.37 1/8.

If I had one of those I would have to do about the same to it.

All that for a 7 sec 1/8 I would be upset. I had a ram that ran in that range and had less money in it than he has in his blower alone. And my ram was a 4 door, camein at 5000 pounds. What does his car weigh? About 4500? That's a huge advantage already.

On a stock short block 6.1, with street tires, I'd say the 7.37 is pretty good.

That being said, I wouldn't recommend spending the money on a supercharger without forged pistons.

On another note- you could leave the stock short block and swap on eagle heads. You end up with very high compression. There was a guy running 11.50's @118 with an 08-older 5.7 stock short block with GTP ported eagle heads at 4000 lb's.
