I'm looking to compile some information for a future 5.9 magnum build that I plan on doing, looking to do 400+hp/400+torque on stock stroke or as much as I can while keeping it streetable with my 2.94 rear gears and a 904 trans that I plan on building with the 2.75 first gear, if that means a milder cam that's fine and I'm planning on using the factory multi-port EFI. I plan on doing some autocross and some road racing events here and there, let's say the percentage is 75% street 25% race.
What is everyone using for pistons and rods? I like the idea of reusing the oem rods but do they fit LA pistons? I was under the impression that the magnum pistons are different than the LA pistons, am I correct on that? When searching online for pistons I find lots of 5.9 pistons but they don't usually clarify if they are for a magnum or not. Or should I just use aftermarket LA pistons with an aftermarket SCAT rod. I figure I will internally balance the oem cast crank.
