6-71 small block build.

I really have no idea, just seems like abad idea. Don't matter to me any ways. I'm getting a intake with the blower.

I will be buying a blower cam. Just not sure what one. That's a bit down the road.

The heads are fresh from the machine shop and the guy (he's a member here) only wants 300 bucks for the set so when I get the chance I figure I pick em up.

The have to better than the heads on the block.
 
Today I was in my buddy's shop just shooting the breeze and I asked what's up with this car. I see the guy here all the time. Why is this car still here?

He said, I just dont have time to finish it and my new guy ain't good enough to put it all together. Then he looks at me and says.
This is a good job for you. You finish this car and I'll do all the machine work on your new engine for free.

Done I said, it's a deal!

So I'm gonna do all the BS on a supercharged mustang and hes gonna do all the machine work on my blower build.

Honestly I have no idea. I would love it if was the one peice cast deal but I assume it's a two peice modified get down?

The 6 71 ships out tomorrow, so we will know I. 4 or 5 days!

They guy at dyers just finished bead blasting all the parts and was working on final assembly this morning!


My girl dont know it yet but I WILL BE bolting it all together and sitting it on the TV stand in the bedroom untill my new engine is ready.....

Carbs (used) 1,200.00

So I'm already 5,450.00 in and I haven't even started on the long block yet.

Thank good I'm not paying for machine work but it's still gonna be a fair amount of cash just in hard parts......

The next for or five days are gonna go by real slow...

Wow!! That's alot for a bolt on power adder! Lol its gonna be fun tho. You may have said and I didnt see it but what are you doing with your current Stroker engine?? And how much more hp are you looking at between the two?
 
My current engine is a stock stroke 360. 10.8-1.

Its going on an engine stand in the shop once the new build is ready. Once I get a handle on the blower tune I may sell it but honestly I have so much money in machine work and parts in it I'll never get what its worth so I probably just keep it.

HP wise. I have no idea. I don't even care what it makes. I wanted a blown small block.

I hear the LA blocks will let go around 600 HP so I'll probably push it right up against that number and see what happens.

I will be running a cast crank and rods but I think the failures start in the block most times.

I may go bilet main caps.

My buddy who owns the machine shop is a dealer for Nelson racing engines and could have sold me a set of NRE turbos for A LOT LESS. in fact he really enjoys telling me how stupid I am for going this route but I dont care.

Blowers are cool. Look in the forced induction form. Everyone has a turbo small block. I think theres like 4 or 5 guys here with blown small blocks.

And if turbos were so bad *** why does top fuel run roots blowers?

My Son will roots supercharge a smallblock Dodge eventually for his race car I'm building, goes back to those days when blown SBCs started beating any bigblock in Alcohol Dragster. We both love supercharged small V8s, just a different sound that's so cool. I joined the Supercharger Forums.com, lots of info.

The weak link are the head gaskets....... There’s simply not enough head bolts on a SB for clamping force......
I wouldn’t run billet main caps, it’s not like you’ll see cap walk unless you’re running excessive RPMs, which is rarely done on a 671 blown application.
 
Cool man, looks like a fun project! I always wanted to do a blower motor, but I got soooo much go fast stuff for my NA small block that it wouldn't make sense for me now. Some day I will probably do a turbo 360, but after I get done scratching the bracket racing itch.

By the way, you may want to put a little money into some aftermarket rods. Scat I-beams would suffice.
 
I think if I were looking at supercharging a small block I'd look at a Indy Modman intake to convert.

Don't they require a special offset dizzy, while the Offy 5698 and 5615 do not?

I have one of those, which is going on my 360 build. I'll verify which one it is when I get home. The one I have required a little work with a dremel and I got some spherical washers for a solid fit since it's made for the older 273 with the intake manifold bolt angle.

There is also a taller one, I don't know the part number. I can try to find it when I get home.
 
I dont like the look of the mod man intake and I dont want to give money to indy.

It can be made to work with a stock distributor but with all the negatives, it wasn't even in the running for consideration.

I did the same thing with my Edelbrock 2 X 4 dual plane. I got the angles close. Digging the washer solution.

I don't know who told you 600 was the limit on the block, but I think they are wrong. I am in the 650 to 700 range with no problems in 3 years of running. I think I would put my money into a stock forged crank and a set of H-beam rods over the cast crank and rods. I wouldn't worry about billet caps as long as the rpms are going to stay below 7000. Go with a set of forged pistons with a static ratio around 8 to 1 and you should be good to go with 7lbs of boost and the timing locked at 28 degrees on pump premium and if you want to get on it with 100 octane, go to 10 to 12 lbs of boost at 31 degrees and hang on.

Is that 650-700 HP naturally aspirated or ar you using a power adder?
 
What 360s came with forged cranks?
Is there a source for one besides buying new?

your building a stroker right? forged crank.
If it's a stock cast crank(360) spend the time to grind all the stress risor (sp) off of the crank.
 
I ended up selling the 340 right before I decided to build the blower motor..
 
Heres the message I just sent to my engine builder.


We can start at 7 pounds. If that costs less. How much can we push the stock rotating assembly? Put your engine building brain to the problem, it just needs to be faster than a ford bronco.
