I have a 72 Duster 6cyl. I want to drop in a 340.
Besides the K-Frame, what else do I need to change???
Thanks

You will need a few items. Radiator, torsion bars,trans, driveshaft, rear end, brakes would be a good upgrade. B.t.w. you can buy motor mount kits to work with your existing k member.

The /6 radiator wont do the job well enough to keep the engine cool, so that'll have to go. Also the handling is going to be sloppy unless you replace to torsion bars (although if youre only going to be drag racing the /6 bars will work fine). The transmission bolt pattern is different between a /6 and a small block. Also the 7 1/4 rear you have now probably wont live very long behind a 340, and lastly you'll be adding a lot of weight to the car, so you probably want to upgrade the front brakes to discs if you currently have drums. Hmm it seems like I'm forgetting something but thats the major things I remember right now.

Thanks for the advice.
Can you give me a little more on the K-frame???
I thought the 6cyl wouldn't hold the 340.
Is there any other front end parts that need to be replaced???

http://www.engine-swaps.com/ , is the site which you will find the swap kits. I did a small block to big block swap. Very very good instructions and material in the kit. Easy to do.

The swap could use upgrades like listed above. Brakes, cooling, rear. You'll need a new drive shaft and perhaps a shifter for the small block tranny. The /6 tranny will not fit.
Other than a T-bar upgrade, sway bars are a good idea. Click here; http://www.swaybars.com/

I went from a \6 speed manual to a hot 360 4spd in my 68 Barracuda. Most everyone covered the items you need to change but here is how I approached it;

1. Swapped in the 4spd tranny as part of the paint and body work activities.

2. I swapped from the 9" drums to 73-76 A-body disk brakes and upgraded the torsion bars to big block bars about a year latter.

3. I swapped the 7.25 to an 8.25" suregrip rear end with 3.55 gears at the same time as the disk brakes and had the tire mounted on big bolt pattern wheels for the car.

4. I upgraded the cooling system to a v8 radiator.

All these items were done with the \6 still in the car and it was never off the road for more than a day or two. All the while I was collecting parts for the v8 swap. I rebuilt a 360, collected the clutch, bell housing parts, motor mounts and had everything ready to go for the v8 swap.

The actual swap of the 360 happened over one weekend with only a couple of odds and ends to sort out over the follwoing few days before I was back on the road.
