60-62 [ Valiant & Lancer ] Builds

1Bad, do you consider "still sorting it out" to be "under construction"? I built my more-door '62 V8 sedan quite awhile ago, but it always seems to want more "lub" (redneck for "love"). Right now I am trying to tune the Thermoquad because it was falling on its face on acceleration. I found that the accelerator pump wasn't working correctly, and it definitely needs to be re-jetted/re-rodded. A tuner friend of mine gave me a lambda number for the lean condition under load, and now I need to figure out what jets and rods to install.

Automatic, with pushbutton actuation, of course. I installed a 727 because I thought I'd need it, considering the power I was hoping my engine would produce, and I had to raise the transmission tunnel in order to install it. In retrospect, a well-built 904 probably would have been just fine, and would have been quite a bit lighter. When installing a V8 into a '60-'62 Valiant or Lancer, there's not too much room for exhaust manifolds or headers, and things get really crowded at the rear driver's side of the engine, where the pushbutton shift cables go under the car between the steering box and the exhaust pipe. Also, I couldn't find room to mount the battery under the hood (although some others have; I don't know how!), so I mounted it in the trunk, and then you have the question of how to run the battery cable to the starter. Fun, fun, fun!

We have gad this 62 Lancer dabout 7 years or so. I did the body/paint years ago and redid it in B3 blue last year. The slant is out an needs freshening.
Wife claims it, but we would like to downsize. Toads are scarce/

Is that a Volvo in the background? Looks cool whatever it is.

A built 904 998 will work well with a 360 in any A body .
Consider that Chrysler put the 360 and 904 in the ‘78 Cordoba and it lived or the ‘84 police Diplomats had the hi po 318 /904 combo and they lasted .

Besides being smaller and lighter the 904 takes less hp to operate then the 727 .

Mine are always under construction!

Search @madmax/6. That's Mark Etheridge. He held the naturally aspirated slant 6 record several years in I believe it was a Lancer.
