any suggestions on the removal of the instrument cluster on the 62 lancer. i have the factory service manual, but it is either wrong, or seems that it doesn't cover the lancer, just the bigger dodge. the instrument cluster is housed in a dash extension, and it seems that that must be removed from the main dash to remove the instruments. i am assuming that the lancer and valiant are the same, but not sure.

I was working on mine tonight. I took my seats out and laid on my back under the dash. Your right, the frame bolts to the dash but after you drop the column down you can take the dash cluster out without taking the frame out. Just unbolt all the stuff you can get to and the wiper, lights and speedo cable. Disco the battery if you have one in before you start. I can send you some pics if you want.

I have the factory shop manual sitting right in front of me. Real simple procedure. You do have to remove the steering wheel and drop the column. good time to replace all those light bulbs and cleanup all thos electrical contacts especially on the amp meter.

What he said in the last sentence is what I call "while you're in the neighborhood" tasks. If it takes much effort to get to a part needing work, cleaning/lubricating otherwise servicing whatever's nearby saves me having to go back later. It's also educational.

i wish i had your manual, but the one i have is a original 62 manual that says on the cover " lancer dart, and polara", and it shows nothing on the cluster removal on the lancer. it just says take out four screws, and lay the cluster forward? it looks like getting at the bolts that hold the dash extension to the dash will be a mother.
will see if wheel removal, and dropping the column makes a difference.
