63 dart console

2 questions, what is the knob on the spedometer guage for, Second I'm going to paint the console, what have you guys done. My friend says paint it the same as the interior, another says dull aluminum, and yet another says, chrome paint. Suggestions, idea's, thanks in advance, Jim.

1) There is no knob on the speedometer.
2) some parts are chrome some are aluminum
