I bought a 64 Dart GT vert a while ago and have been trying to put it all back together. The previous owner had done a fair amount of work (including a full engine rebuild), but I am the one trying to finish the work and put everything back togther. I need to figure out what is going on with the tranny "kick-down" assembly. Nothing is hooked up, so I am trying to figure out if I am missing parts, and how to set it up. Obviously the throttle cable/bracket is not original, but it looks like the pivots/linkages are there, the lower arm is intact, and I think I might have the other arms (see pictures). Please take a look and let me know what you think. Any feedback - and better yet, pictures of how it should be set-up, would be GREATLY appreciated! THANK YOU!!!

I'm interested in getting whatever I need, but first I need to figure out what - if anything - I'm missing. This was the first year of the V-8, so I am wondering if the parts are universal to the salnt 6 and the V-8. Any info is appreciated.

Slant-6 and V8 linkage setups are not even a little bit the same. Pay careful attention to what you are buying (and who you are buying it from) so you get what you need. Here's what the '64-'66 A-body V8 throttle and kickdown linkage looks like ('67-up setups are not the same):

It's definitely a non-intuitive setup, and its adjustment procedure is a little bizarre. The FSM helps!

Here's a link to a guy on E-bay with a 2bbl. setup (even though he says it's for a 4bbl). The lower section should work for you but the upper bell crank needs to be a 4bbl only type. Your carb doesn't look like a factory Mopar unit so who knows if the stock parts will work. You may want to look into a Lokar system to save time, money, and headaches.

This is perfect! Thanks for your help.

The carb is an Edelbrock 4 barrel, and I don't think the stock stuff will work. I'll check out the Lokar system. THANKS!

When I printed the diagram, the "electronic path" has "u225" and "SL6" in it. I just wanted to double check to make sure you sent the diagram for the V-8. If you can clarify, that would be great. THANKS.

The diagram is correct for the V8 cars as stated. Read the filename (after the final slash), not the path name. "u225" is my username, and "SL6" is a subdirectory where I place pictures for posting on the slant-6 board and here.

I figured it was a stupid question, but I typically hover somewhere between imbecile and moron, so I really had nothing to lose!

You must have that rear pivot, its bolted to the back of the head. The carb rod pushes back, the down rod moves up and the lower rod pushes back. Simple, NOT! The 2 key parts are the pivots. Trucks had a big Z bar that just moved back with the carb but we have no room for that. Bouchilin makes a cable operated but you can too, it runs out the front of the carb so it pulls when you mash the gas and then pulls the kickdown lever from the back of the trans. You can use a bike brake cable if you can make some nice anchors.
