'64 Valiant sells for over $8,000

I talked to the seller yesterday and the high bidder is having some problems. What do you think the car is worth? Just curious - may send for it. thanks

Nice car and I feel its worth the $8000. You couldnt build a car that nice for half that.
 
Wow! Thats the question of the day! What is an older car worth?

You can look at the guides, you can scour the net, you can research to the nth degree. Some might say - no V8, others might say - totally original. It certainly looks as clean as a car of this vintage could be. It apparently runs like a clock. It needs nothing added, modified, scrounged to make it presentable, and little to make it perfect.

How much would you have to put in a lesser quality car to get it to that level. Seems this day that 10k for a turnkey anything seems reasonable. The liklehood of finding a better condition version of this car, cheaper in a couple of years is probably unlikely.

I just saw a NOS Sharktooth grille on craigs for $3000 firm.

My opinion, if you're looking for this particular car.. I think it's reasonable, if you're set on something else.. then you have to deal with the "compromise" vs. "what you want to spend" as determining it's value to you.
 
no way thats worth $8000... i say 6K max. and that may be pushing it... yes the signet interior is expensive to do but the paint looks shinney but looks to me like one that will pop all over the place in the near future... just doesn't have a good paint look to it if you ask me... especially around that stupid ruin the car flip top gas cap.. you can see the paint is already screwed up around that.. and on top of it all its still only a six cyl. car.... i think there are nicer ones out there... even the motor has a quickie paint job on it...
 
The fuel cap was a bad idea. But that paint job still cost a pretty penny. The car is black, if it was a half *** paint job you would see it. I bet between the paint, interior and rims theres $8000.
 
Theres definitly some spots in the paint and if you look at the closeups of the bumpers and chrome trim, they show wear also. That being said though, thats a pretty nice looking car. I know one thing, I would have to go up close and personal thoroughly checking car out before throwing down 8 large. If I've learned one thing about buying cars, its that pictures can sometimes be very deceiving. JMO, Mike
 
look at that paint again.. there are dry looking spots at some places.. and look around that fuel cap.. the paint is screwed... the car needs to be painted again.. especially if buying for $8000. if it need to be painted it may as well be in primer as far as i'm concerned.... its a decent looking car but just not worth $8000 in my opinion...


look at this quarter.. look at the texture of the paint... sure not a top notch job.. i'll bet it looks allot better in the pictures then it does in person... hell look at my car in pictures. it looks great, till you see it in person. its a mess....

He wasn't hidding anything as you guys point out you can see blemishes, so the seller was being honest. If someone has the money and it is what they want then have at it and spend the money. I am sure that everyone that is beating up on this car has never, ever spent more than the should of for something have they? right! We can sit here and nit pick this thing to death, bottom line is if you do not like the car and it is not your money fine, shut your pie hole.

God I wish my '65 Valiant was this crappy looking.

if you look at what goodbread wrote. the question was what do we think it was worth... i never said that the seller was hideing anything.. i just said for the money i didn't think it was worth it.... it was my opinion. don't know why you took it personal. maybe you know the seller or the buyer who knows... i stand by what i said.. its a nice looking car except for that stupid gas cap but in my opinion isn't worth $8000.
 
I have no patience for someone that beats up on other peoples stuff. The thread was started by ValiantMike not anyone else. If you want to respond to someone else and it is going to be negative about someone elses stuff do us a favor and do it in a PM.

no biggie... look man i'm not tearing it down.. just pointing a few thing out that to me make it worth less then $8000.
 
I was going to do my seats back to stock but the prices were murder, so I just picked up these leather Mercedes buckets for mine.

That original interior is tough to find. Would cost at least a grand by itself......
then it's got some mods that either add or detract from the value, whatever your view. I think what's done works well on the car. The Dutra manifolds, two barrel and Signet trim with nice Cragars and decent tires. The paint ain't great but what a great place to begin. I wish my Valiant was that complete and nice to start!!!

But as mentioned earlier. An old car is worth whatever a person feels it is worth
 
That is a perfect example of beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Why would anyone let a e-body convert get that bad?

I can't beleive its gotten 24 bids so far. I'll tell you something though. Early A-bodies have been overlooked for a long time and I think people are starting to see what a great value they are. Mike

I doubt that anyone here would take their Mopar to a Mustang or Camaro meet expecting to sell it there for a decent price!

A car like a Valiant has to have a personal attraction to be of value. It's probably not the right choice for an investment auto. But, explain how a 70 Barracuda Hemi 4spd convertible can be worth 7 million!? A lot of people wouldn't consider a 1964 Barracuda to be of any value. But the one I've got, the first car I ever owned, would take a REALLY hefty sum to get away from me. A car like an old Valiant has to have some personal attraction to be of any value. The old, "I used to have one', "my grandad had one", "I've always thought I like that look" etc., etc.

If you like it and you can sleep after you do so, buy it!
 
This is a no brainer.I bet any one on this board if they can built this car as clean as this and with all that has been put into it for under 8G,if the guy does come through,tell them to call me,and i will buy it and ship it to my place,mrmopartech

its becaus everything else got too high.. it sucks because they will be crazy soon enough too..
 
Nice looking car seems bid ok to me. That car looks really solid except for that darn gas cap mod. If that was a factory 273 4 speed car it would be really sweet, nice solid undercarrage don't see that much on the east coast cars.
