'65 Barracuda Trunk Brace/Bracket: What is it?

On top of the drivers side rear wheel well (inside) is some kind of bracket or brace. Trying to figure out what the function is. All the tire change equipment is missing (so what else is new?) so I was figuring maybe it had something to do with the jack or lug wrench? Thank you.

Valiant and Barracuda have the same brackets (at least my 63 Valiant and 65 Barracuda do). Three: one for the base of the jack to slip into, another for the hold-down spring to clip to, and the almost hidden one at the top for the top of the jack to sit on. Should be a piece of felt glued to the top bracket (if I remember correctly, which these days sometimes I don't), but that part is long gone on both my early A's. Here's the Valiant jack:
