Hi All will a complete 1974 dart V8 front crossmember with upper control arms/disc brakes.and V8 torsion bars, bolt into my 1965 Dart 6yl gt. I have been bitten by the Mopar bug and want to run a small block 340/360, 727 trans 8 3/4 diff. This site is a wealth of good info and good intel is my starting point. Thanks Bigmoe

You can't use the K-member or sway bar but everything else will fit as an assembly. Your existing K-member is the same for a 6 or 8 so no reason to change it. You'll just have to get some mount brackets for the 340/360 for that K-member. Make them yourself or buy them from Schumacher. 8 3/4 rear for sure but I'd use a 904 for the transmission. Have it built with all the goodies and it will hold up fine. It's lighter and eats less horsepower than a 727 and it fits the floor much better.
Have fun!

Mark thanks for the info, I will check out Schumacher motor mounts, Do you know if the v8 1974 torsion bars will fit the 65? And will the 74 manual steering box work on the 65? thanks Bigmoe

The torsion bars and steering box should work on your 65. If your 65 is power steering you will need to find a manual column or at least the shaft however due to different length of the adaptor at the end of the steering shaft. There is also a company that makes an adaptor for converting from power to manual steering although the name escapes me at the moment.

The torsion bars will fit. The steering gear will bolt onto the K-member and fit the coupler but there is no pitman that will work. With the '65 K-member, you'll have to use a '62-72 steering gear and '62-6 steering linkage.

Also, bear in mind that later steering boxes mounted with larger bolts. As the bolt shanks locate the box, you will need to come up with some sort of bushings to reduce the bolt hole size on the box. Shouldn't be too hard.

I am adding power steering to my 65 commando build. I have the power steering from a 65 barracuda 273 that was poer steering and A/C. How do I mount this power steering pump and what do i need to do about a steering column?

If you torque the mounting bolts properly, I've never seen that as an issue. In fact, I kinda like a little extra adjustment in the mounting. It makes aligning the column with the input shaft much easier so there is no strain on the column seal.

You should have gotten the whole changeover off that car. All the pump parts should mount the same on your car. You'll want to get a different crank pulley so you don't have to use that goofy rubberized one the A/C cars had. Just get the 2 groove one for a car without air along with the matching water pump pulley. You'll also have to either change the column or just the center shaft w/coupler from a '63-6 A-body P/S car. Keep in mind that the column floor plates are different between years so you'll have to strip down the column to change it anyway.

Going from manual to power, you are going to need to shorten the column, section cut and weld or get a power column. Flaming River makes the adapter to go the other way around. Its bucks though, over 100!
