I’m on the hunt for buckets for my 68 Barracuda. I know the 67 are different from the 68/69 on the back panels. Can you use 67 cores and convert them to 68/69?

In a word, no. 68 and 69 are identical except of course for the covers and bottom foam. The 67 has no catch for the top and the hard backs, and the hard lowers. The frames are completely different.

It has been my experience that 67 didn't come with the holes on the top of the seat back for the headrests. You can feel if the holes are there by pushing down on the vinyl to feel for the holes. 67 also had hard side panels on the sides of the seat bottoms along with the hard backs.

Automotive Headrests became federally mandated January 1, 1969. Before that they were available only as an option.

I put 67 buckets in my 68 . I think they look a bit more dressy.

Like mbaird said, the 67 buckets are at bit more dressy. Heres our 67, I have 69s as well but nowhere as "dressy" as the 67.
        Our 67 has optional headrest.

So 1968 seats had holes for the head rests?

Yes, and latches for seat backs. Before 67 the top member of the seat back frame was round tubing. When they changed it to square ( and punched holes for head rests ) it got about 1/2 inch shorter. They did tend to use up existing stock but majority of 67 seat backs will have the later design.

I looked at my 67 buckets and it looks/ feels like there are holes on the top for head rests. Can I use a 68/69 head rest on it? Sorry for posting on an old thread.

Yes i did that with a pair of 68 buckets. Make sure you feel the holes. 67 was a different seat back. Unless someone changed them.

Take the 67 seat back off and make sure there are supports for head rest. Post pics with back removed.
ALSO, I myself would rather see old threads revived when they're pertinent.

It will take me sometime to remove them and do some research. As soon as I do I will post pics, etc..

Can you measure the distance between the "posts" that go into the seat?

Our 67 isnt here but the 69 is if that helps? I posted 67 measurements here somewhere. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Thanks. It looks like there is not compatibility between the 67 and 68/69 headrests. Anyone have any idea if a non Mopar headrest may work on a 67 bucket? Or if the B body one was confirmed to work?
