I looked at the car from the rear and noticed the middle trim piece on the decklid was maybe 1/16th inch higher the both the little matching trim pieces on the taillights. So I pushed down on the trunk lid and it was slightly loose. It is not in danger of flying up, but it rattles. It probably explains why the car rattles back there when I couldn’t find anything loose. How do you adjust it ?

The latch mechanism that attaches to the lid should be adjustable. I believe it has slots. Moving it up towards the top of the lid will make it latch lower on the body. A little should make a significant difference. If your weather strip is shot it may continue to rattle as it provides the positive compression to make the seal.

Clementine- don’t you mean lowering the latch mechanism a tad bit will make the trunk lid close tighter?

If you raise it- you are allowing it to latch further up. Unless I’m missing something here.

And I agree on the weatherstrip.
If shot it may never stop rattling.
Typically I found just replacing the weather strip and not touching the latch will correct most rattles in that case.

Yeah, one way or another. Ill have to look at mine, but I thought the fixed "hoop" was on the bottom. So raising the latch towards the top of the deck lid will bring the deck lid further down when closed? Anywho, its adjustable.....now I gotta go look.

Moving the latch that is attached to the deck lid towards the sky will close the deck lid further. I think I’m saying that correct but i reserve the right as the last of 9 children to change my answer at the drop off a hat….per usual rules

But as @Syleng1 said, change the weatherstrip first if it’s shot
