I was going to try that and I ask some guy at a body shop supply place told me I would mess them up more. I was goiln to use my dremel and a polishing wheel to buff them .

The metal part slides off at least on my set.

The ones I have are clear, I guess the light shines through them. Or maybe part of them is missing.

I have been educated and I now know that I am looking for the chrome pieces that fit on the clear A/C push buttons.
Through 72 model are the same so shouldn't be too difficult to find decent used. The chrome jacket was not supposed to just slide of but... some do. Others wont come off with less than dynamite. LOL
I personally would seek good button assemblies rather than loose bits. Good luck.

Thank you Redfish, it should be a lot easier now that I know they're not just clear plastic buttons.
