Im gonna build a 68 barracuda fastback and Im probably gonna build the motor first so I wanna know how much the cars normally weigh at race weight. Im shooting for 6.40 or 6.50 in the 1/8. So if you could let me know how much yours weighs and what you did to get it there. Im planning on back halfing and using ladder bars or 4 link with a dana. The front will be fiberglass for the most part. The motor will likely be a 400.

Thanks guys

Mine is: Iron headed 383, aluminum motor plate, manual everything, factory disc brakes, back halved, heavy 2x3" rear frame. Leaf sprung 8-3/4" rear, 15x15" Convo Pro rears, 15x4 skinnies up front. No rear seat, 1 race bucket up front for now. No heater, 8 point cage/bar. 15 gal fuel cell. All steel body, all factory glass. Weighs 3,070 lbs. without me.

That sounds rear close to what I wanna do with mine. If you dont mind me asking what do ya run with the old 383 and what is the estimated hp? Reason I ask is Im building a 72 demon with a 383 and superstock springs that sounds real close to the set up of you barracuda except the back half part mine has been mini tubbed is all.

My 69' Valiant is all the same (mini tubed) with 440 and a'glide with Ultrabell cases
(heavy). It weigh's 3049 with out me in it. Runs 11:17 2500' altitude adjusted 10:77.
440 12:1 compression, bull dog heads 660 lift ultradyn solid cam TTI 2" headers 8.75 with 4:30 gears.SS springs

The 383 is basically a re-ringed bottom end, milled closed chamber heads, ported. RPM intake, 750 carb. It has stock rockers on a little hydraulic cam that makes about .450" lift at the valve. By best MPH, (108 ) I think it was making 400 HP at 5,000 rpms.
The first trip to the track, with no tuning at all, and a bad ignition that limited me to 5,000 rpm shifts, it ran a 12.4 et. I fixed the ignition for this year, and expect low 12's. I have a solid cam that will MUCH better match my converter. I expect 11's from that. We'll see.
