68 Cuda and USA Car Tool Sub frame connector Question

I'm installing the USA Car Tool subframe connectors in my 68 Barracuda fastback ..
Both pics are showing the inside of the connectors by the drive shaft looking outward
The fit is fairly good except for this area .
Is this gap correct , and if so , why is it so big ?

I think they are gapped like that to clear the floor pan in a Duster too.

I may be way off base here - but does the emergency brake cable go through that area?

the emergency brake cable will pass thru the drivers side, but the pass side is the same also ., maybe a giant fuel line
It seams like a whole lot of stuff could collect in there and cause problems down the road .
They make a set for the 67-69 A bodies and another set for the 70 and up .
I have my receipt and its part # USCT0008 67-69 A body
