Ok I am thinking about a transplant of my 340 into the 68 dart that I just bought. Its a 318 car with a 904 and 8 1/4 . i was thinking of swappin the 340 and the 8 3/4 out of my duster into the Dart.
Questions.

is the 8 3/4 a direct swap?
I know the motor will swap I have the air gap and a spacer on my 340 will it fit under the stock hood, iif not what do I need to do , I am keeping the stock hood and no scoop.
I am going to have go to a flex plate for the auto if I stick the 318 in the duster for now can I use my flywheel and clutch from the duster. 340 to 318 ???
whats is the largest tire I will be able to run on the dart?? I am runnin 295x50s on the duster will the go in ??

Pass on any helpfull info to make these decissions.

Or should I just leave the duster and build the 383 for the dart. What would that be. I know the 68 dart came with a 383 could make it a clone??

I plan on building a BB for the duster wraped on a 456 gear .

Im pretty sure the rear end will go right up we did a swap on my car from 7 1/4 to my dads 8 3/4 for a day to see how easy it was,no sweat
what size spacer?i had a 2" on my 318 with a preformer eddy intake and the tri, eddy air cleaner was like 1/2" out of the hole
i do however think that the flex plate and all that will fit i dont think that the monting holes where dif on the 340's and 318's
a stock leaf dart can house a 245/60 with very little play in them at all
And if it was me and i had two abodies id hav both the cars set up the same other then the motor and trans, then just swap um out every year, itll keep me a head of the game :thumleft: but thats if ya hav time to do all that  i know i dont thats all just a dream :farao:

its a 1' spacer and I am hoping with an offset breather that it will fit with no changes.

Kinda hard to set bothe A bodies up the same , each will have a differant purpose.
The dart will be a street set up and the duster is going to the track. What was the back set on your wheels when you put those 60s on it??

The 8 3/4 rear will bolt right in. As far a hood clearance, it might be tight. Maybe you could pop the rear of the hood up a little.
The 340 flywheel and clutch will bolt up to the 318 if you plan on putting it in the Duster for now. The roller pilot bearing will allow you to use the 318 with a 4spd. A SFI flex plate is fairly cheap, but the convertor and trans will probably cost a bit.
The 295's will be way to big for the Dart. 245's will probably be the widest you could use (like Mike).
Leave the Dart a small block and big block the Duster. You'll need the drivers side motor mount bracket for the 340 when you put it in the Dart. If you decide to do it, let me know and I'll send you the brackets. I have two extra sets. You'll just need to get the rubber isolators. Or you could go solid :thumrigh:

well lets get a shopping list that I will need and get going. I will be pulling the 318 in the next week and spraying the engine compartment then in goes the 340.

will my TTIs still work with the power stearing unit. I would like to leave that unit in there and just change pulleys on the 340.

plan is my 340 the 904 gone through and the 8 3/4 with the 3:91s.

Plop the 318 in the duster untill its ready for the BB.

In my pics i hav my dads L60X15 on there, they dont fit as u might already know  im going to get 255's for her soon, the rims and Centerlines 15x8.5 i for get the BS on them but (Adam) has the same rims as i do He should know!if u trim the fender well lip u will hav more to play with :thumleft: As far as the hood its goona be close like an *** hair or so!

not trimming or poping anything out. this is grandmas car with attitude. Craig you are going to love it. Its your valiant just with ZERO rust.

If your not going to trim it up the 245's might be a prob. im not sure thoght so dont take my word on it mabey go with a 235

I HAVE 235 X 50 X 15 ON MY 70 DART. HAD TO TRIM INNER LIP SO THEY WOULDN'T RUB. DON'T KNOW IF YOUR 68 DART IS THE SAME.

that if one fine looking dart. I dont want to trim my fenders, your dart looks like a race car mine loks like a grand ma's car. I am going to keep that Granny look with a 425HP 340   should be interesting
