bearings sound dry & screeching after a block or so It goes away mostly....in the middle of axle it has an indentation with a hole that looks like it would fit the tip of a grease gun is that what the hole is for ?...

Ummmmmm that is probably the fill hole for the gear lube. Gear lube is typically 80 to 90 weight oil. If there is no threaded plug in that hole then you probably lost most of your gear lube and burned up your teeny tiny gears.

You can try filling it back up through the hole until it just starts coming back out then plug the hole and say a prayer.

My guess is that your screwed as those rear ends are pretty fragile.....lucky for you those rear ends are around and they are cheap.

Good luck.

Sounds like you have some dirt, dust, or rocks in your brake linings.
No, there isn't a grease nipple in the middle of the axle.
(I took it as the end of the axle where the wheel bolts on)

You may have a bad bearing in which case you'll have to pull the offending axle and slip a new bearing on it. Try eliminating anything obvious first - pull the drums and blow off all brake debris just to be sure nothing is screeching on the drums.

There is no fill hole in the middle of the axle, only an air hole. You fill the rear-end at the side of the pig.
