This is a 7 1/4 rear end rite?

Will the backing plates work on my 8 3/4? Do people ever buy 7 1/4 rear ends?

We have a member hear looking for one in the part's wanted thread.

The brakes should swap onto an 8 3/4.

Do people buy them? Yes, all the time. They're worth their weight in scrap at your local metal recycler.

The backing plates on a 8 3/4 are held on with five holes , the 7 1/4 is held on with four holes .....

Steve

Damn it ! I hate being wrong ... All the 7 1/4 I've seen have been four bolts , probably because I always have the earlier stuff I guess. Cool beans for you though .

Nah mines open. Oh and the 7 1/4 has C clip axles rite? so i just pop the cover off and remove the c clips and slide the axles out? or are they like the 8 3/4?

No C clips, just unbolt the backing plate, and the axle and bearing will slide out.

there is no backing plate on a 8 3/4 its a front load and thr 7 1/4 and 8 1/4 is a rear load

I beleve you can drill the 5th hole and they will work. Should be somebody here that can tell for sure.
