7.25 axle flange gaskets question

So i have the foam gaskets and on my 7.25 the foam gasket were between the backing plate and the housing is that correct? I would think doing a felpro gadket or just rtv would be better between the backing plate and housing. Then i could put the foam between the front of the backing plate and the little plate on the axle? Need advice, thanks guys.

The factory used a gasket on both sides of the backing plate.
