My 70 Duster (340, auto, Mopar electronic ignition, one year old battery, one year old Napa starter) generally gives me no problems. It has about 3000 miles on it since it was rebuilt (engine, transmission). The other day I started it and drove it around no problems. I parked it in my driveway, swept out the garage a bit, then when I went to restart it it wouldn't start. What it did do is make a loud metallic banging noise about 2-3 times a second when I tried to start it. The noise is definitely coming from the starter and I'm not sure but it may be coming from the front of the starter. The starter was bought new, not rebuilt, one year ago. After checking the battery voltage and general connections I decided to remove the starter. The starter looks brand new, there are no damaged gear drive teeth. I've had it tested at 2 shops and both said it looked fine.
Before I get too far into this is there something obvious that I'm missing? Thanks in advance for any troubleshooting ideas.
