71 demon starting problems

it sounds like it starts for a split second and like it's taking a big gasp of air, i taught it was the leaking fuel pump but its not, im checking spark know but what can it be? has anything similar happened to any of you? im not sure what else to do.

look at the run side of the ignition...

you have start and run....check your ballast resistor...

how would i check the ballast ?

Like 70aarcuda stated you have a crank side and a run side on the ballast.Crank gives you full juice and run is cut back through the ballast.Just unhook the wires and check it with an ohm meter.If you have an ohm reading or sound it's ok no reading it's bad.
