I posted over on E Bodies, Holy Crickets Batman!! I'll copy and paste my question here. I know there's some E Body guys that hang out here.

My apologies for resurrecting ten plus year old thread. But, this one is closest I could find to my subject. Working with a 1971 Cuda 340. Real deal BS23H. It is a Non A/C car. Am I correct in thinking it "should" have the driver's side fresh air vent? The firewall and complete cowl area are 100 percent original unmolested. There is no hole under the cowl for it. Ironically enough, the build date was Friday March 5. My guess is it is what we could call a typical Friday build. It also appears to have the Shaker cable hole. It's NOT an N96, it is a J54 Sport hood. Just curious if anyone else has seen similar contradictions. Thanks all!!

Thanks FABO-land!!

My recollection is that a NON/AC car has both vent towers under the cowl, and an A/C car only has the passenger side vent. the drivers side will be flat.

I believe you're correct, it should have a driver's side fresh air vent if it's a non-A/C car. At least that was the standard, but, I'm not sure if there are other options that would have deleted the fresh air vent.

My '72 Challenger was an A/C car and does not have the driver's side fresh air vent.

That's pretty much what I figured. I'm guessing between that and what appears to be a Shaker cable hole, it was assembly line screw up.

Unless maybe the shaker meant no driver air box? And the shaker option was removed mid-build? Just wild *** guessing, I don't know enough about some of those fancy E-body options to know for sure.

Putting the wrong inner cowl on a car seems like a pretty significant Friday screw up, but I'm sure worse happened.

Significant indeed. As far as the hole for a possible Shaker cable, could have been added later in life I suppose. It would be easy if these old cars could talk!
