Hey everyone, just cracked the top on this 4dr 71 valiant. 3 on the tree, 70k on the slant/a-230. The 7 1/2 open has been replaced with an UNCUT for 8.8, 3:73 tru-trac and rear disc. 1 1/2 lowering blocks in the back. 2” drop spindles with disc up front.
Plans for the engine include a Garrett ct26 turbo, Gill welding mkii-R intake, mega squirt 2 controller and other misc FI parts. Shooting for a cam with around 115* lobe separation, ARP rod bolts and head studs, standoffs in lifter valley and I think that is all.
The a-230 is being replaced with a 74 non OD 833.
Going back to f7 sherwood green, john deer blitz black hood, with 225 turbo call outs in the spirit of the 340 wedge duster hoods. Rims from the pick a part are 17” from a 08 jeep compass. Needed to die grind the hub ridge, but worked perfect. Rims are temporary and for starting numbers, but work perfect with the uncut 8.8. Found a 74 4dr at the pick a part. She has been donating to the cause. Discs and otherwise.

I like where you going with it. Looks like a good car to start with, & I like that you brave the cold, lousy weather to get done what needs to be done. Good luck.

What are you doing with the Dart rear clip? Your not putting that on the Valiant are you? I have Valiant parts if you need them.

Not sure about the meaning of all the FI stuff, but that will be a very cool ride. That F8 is great color when fresh pant and bc/cc will pop! Keep us posted! I admit, after 35 yrs in the Mopar hobby I have my first more door or 2 really. They are early B bodies, some of my favorite cars.
Anyone with a max wedge they want to donate! ha

That's going to be one cool ride when finished.
I love the color and the build plans.
And I especially love the fact that it's a 4 door!
Can't wait for updates...........

Thanks. Got some parts ordered today. The rear clip from the yard is from a 74 valiant. The previous owner welded the shackle mount and spring perch on the passenger side on the 71. So I cut it to grab some of that. Went back and got the rear bench and am now building a couch out of it. I’ll get some more posted tomorrow

Ran out of room on the jack/blocks. kmember is about 6” from frame rails. First of many test fits. No foreseeable obstructions. Wiring should be fun. Tank is in, supply, return and vent hoses ran.

I like this build alot...I have a '72 4 dr two tone black with white painted top and have had similar build ideas as you. What 8.8 rear did you find? what vehicle did it come out of. That is one sweet Valiant!

2001 exploder. 3:73 tru-trac or whatever ford calls it. Rear discs, easily attainable backing plates and calipers. Rims are from a jeep compass. E brake cable is easy to adapt also

Loving the turbo slant. That is probably on my to do list when I get bored of the lack of power from my 170 when I get my 63 finished and on the road. Cant wait to hear it run. Looks great so far. Great work!

Hard to tell from pictures, but you mentioned you have supply & return hoses ran, and it looks like 2 oil lines going across the top of the engine. Is one your oil "supply" and the other your oil "return"?

The reason I ask is that oil return is gravity fed. It has to re-enter the block somewhere below the turbo where it can just drizzle back to the pan. Typically the drain line is about 3X (or more) larger than the supply line Unless you have a return pump (used for rear-mount turbos), you will be burning some serious oil.

Those are the coolant lines that tee into the heater hoses. The oil to turbo is pressure fed 1/4 from rear of oil pump. The return goes into pan 1/2NPT
