Hi There. We are to the point where the main issue of my 72 Duster is the interior. It was we think originally a bench seat car and it has been converted to bucket seats with console.

The seats that are in it are I believe 70 seats. They have Vertical stitching while the bench seat in the back has the close together horizontal stitching that it should have for a 72.

I am wondering if the seat metal frames are essentially the same? Can I get seat covered for a 72 to put on these 70 seats? Also the other issue is it seems there is no preformed seat foams for a 72 Duster seat available. So beyond having that custom done I am also wondering what can be done there.

Thanks a lot

Look at the Legendary Interiors web site. They have catalog illustrations you can use to identify what you have. Not sure of 70/72 interchangeability but the seat backs also varied. Depends on how original you want to be.

It is at my parents house. I am not sure when I can get down there but as soon as I do I will take some pictures. Thanks a lot.

Just a thought. if you have a Classic Industries catalogue or Internet access, you can identify the seat covers currently on your seats and that should tell you what year seats you have. Only if your seats have the original seat covers of course.

Year One would be another source!

1970 & early 1971 seats have the removable hinge covers.

If that is what you have, it would be any easy trade & maybe some cash on top to a guy with the newer type.

Thanks a lot for the replies. I should be able to get pictures tomorrow.

I was down there yesterday and able to get some pictures.

looks like 76-77 F body seats (Aspen/Volare) as well.

Agree they look like 75 Duster / Dart Sport type seats. Ironically I am working on a set of them right now. Legendary makes the skins and padding for it, the set was about $800.00 for black or white. FYI the seat backs were injection molded from the factory. The frames I purchased were left outside without me knowing it and the padding was wrecked. It is a PITA to remove the seat back padding, but it can be done if you have the time. Hopefully your padding is reusable. Do yourself a favor and go to the legendary website and go to the instruction videos and watch the 73 Cuda bucket seat video, its basically the same. Oh and ignore the part where they say the padding isn't available, it now is. And it will also show you how to reinforce your existing padding if you want.

This is very helpful. Thanks a lot. I called an auto interior shop and they said they could built the foam and vinyl/ do the seats for around 1200. It is on hold for right now do to $$. I do think the 72 interior looks nice and the back seat if it didn't have a rip near the top is a pretty nice back 72 bench. It would be nice to have 72 seats for the front of maybe have a shop build the foam/ vinyl to match what the 72 fronts look like.

Check out the Legendary website. If you can save the foam it's only cost you about $400.00 and you can do it yourself! But if I were you I would call them to place the order, those aren't 72 frames you have. 72 seats have plastic back panels, what you have don't

I’m in the same boat my Duster is a 71. And I have 72 bucket seat frames n I still have the old foam. I’m wondering if I should use the old. You’re right no one’s making 72 foam because the 72 foam has internal springs molded in the foam. So I either use my 72 buckets as is or get 71 used $1200, or new, $700, frames
This might be an option for you too

Its a long shot, I know. Would you happen to still have those '72 Duster bucket frames?

I do n I decided to use them. Ponchos upholstery shop here in Tucson Az is using the old foam n building the foam up with new . I called n talked to Legendary upholstery n guy there says as long as the old foam isn’t powdery it’s still usable.
So if your 72 buckets are good why not use them.
