I started assembling my 727 and something seems not right with the rear band. To adjust it I need to turn in the adjuster bolt almost all the way in to tighten the band, which leaves only a couple of threads for the lock nut. This causes the band pivot thing to be at an angle, and I can see where the adjuster nut is supposed to seat. Something is not right. I have the short strut in there and the band is seated correctly.

Anyone encounter this? Are there different length struts? mine is about 1 1/8 inch long. Almost square.

Did you put the little strut piece in blue from the lever to the band and have the band secured correctly in the fixed case support lever?

THen get an inch lb torque wrench and tighten to specs.. I think 72 inch lbs and then adust per year etc. Sounds not right to me from what you descibe?

Are you using a flex or solid rear band? Also make sure you soak in fluid at least a hr too ok :)

You're sure the band strut is in properly? Was there any wear on the drum or band friction material?

The band is new. I guess I don't know the difference between kinds of bands. It is seated correctly as is the strut.
This trans was rebuilt several years ago but something went wrong when it was put in gear and was it taken out, I got it for free. I'm confused as to whats wrong here. It seems like the strut could be about 1/4 inch longer and it would be fine. I was thinking of making my own out of some cold rolled steel. But I'd still like to know what the problem is.

Do you have the strut turned the wrong way?

It is a rectangle buddy, sounds like you found the issue....
