My trans is out for an engine swap and I'd like to replace the front seal in the 727. Its not leaking but its been in there for over 10 years (less then 3000 miles though). What is the best way to get the old seal out?

I sometimes use a sharp awl to knock tiny a hole in the seal the screw a drywall screw in it and pull the screw. If you know there is a solid stop shoulder behind the seal you can run the screw in and it'll jack the seal out.
If the old seal isn't damaged too bad it can be turned backward and used with a socket or piece of pipe as a knocker for installing the new seal.

If you use a screwdriver to wedge inbetween the converter space and seal you can scratch the pump and interfere with the new seal going in. I use a flat screwdriver and drive it inbetween the seal and the pump and then force it out. The seal will bend and then you will be able to remove it without damage to other parts.

Just thinking out loud.
