73 duster big bolt patter V8 car
Having the issue with the front tire being to wide and hitting the fender. The front sits pretty low so I'm thinking a previous owner adjust the torsion bars. Fronts were 14s rear was 15s I went to a new set of wheels that are all 15s. 15x9 to be exact.
The fronts I took off were 235/60r14. Rim was 14x8. I put a 235/60r15 on the front they stick out and hits the top of the fender arch.
I had a 225/60r15x8 on the front while I was waiting on new tires and had no issue running those.
My thought if I got a 15x7 or a 15x8 rim it would suck in the 235s enough to clear the fender. And adjust the torsion bars if needed. Thanks.

15 x 6.5 or 7 inch wide wheels may work but I think you probably need to get the car to a GOOD alignment tech and get the ride height back in spec. Cranking the torsion bars down doesn't exactly help the caster angles too well on these cars.

I was looking at 15x7s and then adjust the torsion bars as needed. I would have to find a shop that would know how to do that
I have had it aligned at les Schwab but that was to make the car drive straight.

What is the backspacing on the rims?

I doubt there's any way to make a set of 15x9's fit the front of one of these cars that doesn't involve radius cutting the front fenders and adding flares. You need close to 6" of backspace to make a 9" wide rim fit inside the fender with any decent size tire, and you'd run into interference between the rim and the suspension before you even hit 5" of backspace.

Generally speaking, even a 15x8 is a poor choice for the front rims. In order to fit a tire wide enough to need a 15x8 you'd need 5" of backspace, and a 15" rim just doesn't fit at that point.

235/60/15's are not an easy tire to fit up front. They're 26" tall, and that kind of height for a tire of that width usually causes interference issues at the lower front corner when turning.

15x7's with 4.5" of backspace would be the way to get a set of 235/60/15's up front. They'd still be tight on the fenders. 225/60/15's work on most cars with a 15x7" and 4.25" of backspace, even those were close on my '74 Duster with 73+ disks.

The ones I got were 3 inches back spacing and yes they are tight all around I was going to look at a 225 tire but I have coopers and they dont have a 225 radial gt tire. And I cant drop another 600 on all new BFG all the tires I have now are brand new coopers. I will remember the 4.5 back spacing when looking at 15x7s thanks

15x9" with a 3" backspace?!

Those are useless on an A-body unless you're going to use them in the back with a severely narrowed rear axle housing.

Well now I know that... and they are fine on the back of the car. Here's right after I put them on.
