73 duster manual steering coupler rebuild

Got a 73 duster manual steering and the steering coupler needs to be rebuilt. Is there anything out there that is better than the original. This looks like its going to be a pain in the butt.

Easier than you think I have done a bunch of them. Getting the cover to stay on is the hardest thing. The little tangs bend too easy in my opinion.

If this looks like a pain in the butt, you might want to consider taking up stamp collecting instead... Just kidding- and welcome to the site!
Couldn't be easier, and probably less work than replacing it with a u-joint.

Agree. There is a special tool for installing the cover, but they can be installed (A trick to it?) with-out it. I also think the aftermarket covers are not as thick/strong of material as the originals.

I bought this so the cap stays put. Worth every penny.
Assemble on steering shaft then attach to steering box by driving in the drift pin.

But, you’ll want to check your spline count and shaft diameters, They’re different between manual and power steering cars.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the input. Looks like the easiest way is to pull the whole column out and just use that rebuild kit.

The cover is the hardest part, I grabbed one of these as well. Definitely worth it.
