I am getting ready to do a full interior remake on the Scamp. Have a lot of parts to throw at her including a digital dash. Was thinking that it might be easier to get another dash to build and then swap them out. I am curious if these dashes bolt in or are they welded in place? Thanks for the input. My apologies to the diehard OEM guys, but I am a Kustom kind of guy and modifications is where it's at in my book.

They bolt in but the windshield must be out

There are many different ways to skin a cat.. The preferred method is to pull windshield and unbolt dash at windshield upper frame, and lower knee area.

Preferred? Not for me. I don't want to tear the windshield out if I want to redo the dash. I pulled mine out and reinstalled new clips upside down, screwed in from the bottom, being very careful to nut use too long screws that damage the gasket. I first cut the old clips with a small die grinder and cut off wheel. A dremel might work. I pulled the glove box, heater, heater controls, and cluster and of course the column.

Not sure about stuff like factory AC, it would likely have to be removed first.

Maybe in the 70's and 80's. Now at age 69 I couldn't get my fat *** under there. After several windshields they get easy . Lots of Dawn dishwashing liquid both removing and replacing.

67Dart273 thank you for the very good pictures! Just what I needed to answer my question. Now to decide if I really want to go that far because my windshield is perfect. Have been the 'glass removal' route on customers cars and no more time than I get to work on my own project, I may just leave it and work it in place. Oldmanmopar: I feel you there. At 64 it doesnt get any easier standing on my head under dashes! lol

LOL OldManMopar is the guy you should thank for photos. At 76 I know the pain, I have to move slow and easy, pull the seats, lay down cardboard padding, etc, and I HURT after that!! I am 5' 11 about 180. I get the impression Steve is a big guy. Are you over 6 ft?

Well then, thank you Oldmanmopar! Either way it seems like us "old guys" are still trying to do what we can even if we Can't! lol

When Chrysler was building these on the production line, they loaded the dash frame and wired everything, and THEN installed them in the car.
I'd post pics of the bare dash in my living room but I'm traveling for work right now
