"The 360 was just as hot as the 340. Gasoline prices and insurance rates had been making a big impact, though, and only 3,979 Duster 360s were sold."

Quote is from this article: http://www.allpar.com/cars/plymouth/duster.html

I'm pretty sure that 3.55 was the best gear you could get that year in the 8 1/4" Duster rear end!

I have one of these in my back yard. Its a parts car, too bad its so rotted.

I have one of those!
Mine is the muted, pastel yellow color. I'm repainting it a modern color called.."Detonator Yellow". THAT color has some pop to it.
The 3.55 was the highest numerically ratio that was offered. The 360 in stock form wasn't as free at higher rpms as a 68-71 340. SG was also offered as an option. Ma Mopar never had a 4.11 ratio in any A body though. I don't think the 4.10 ratio was even available in an 8 3/4, only in the Dana 60. I WISH mine were a factory bucket seat car, but instead it has the bench with the armrest. Its not a bad idea though, since it IS comfy. Mine is a column auto, 3.21 gear 8 1/4/ Disc brakes, sway bar, A/C. I hope to get paint on it by July.
Good luck with yours.

thanks guys!he swore to me it has it on the window sticker....some track pack deal.i think 3.55s were the highest offered too.he traded a 69 road runner for it,and maybe he got em mixed up.this duster is lt.blue with black top,interior,and stripes....the body and paint look very good,but there is some rust in some strange places....small spots.i hope when i get it home i don't find any bad suprizes....

scott 3.21s and the 360s wa-oh wa-oh stuck like glue...

3.55 gearing was the only step-up from the standard 3.21 ; Sure Grip was standard with the 55's , optional with the 21's .
3.91 and 4.10 disappeared after 1971 .

As far as I can recall , 1974 had some exclusive flair to it :

- 360 was new in H.P. form (it originated in 1971 in 2Bbl form only) ;
- The only year for a 4 speed ( TorqueFlite only from '75 and later ) ;
- One year only positive battery cable (that stupid Seat Belt Override box) ;
- Some models --dependent upon assembly plant and build date-- still had leftover '73 bumper guards .

Out of curiosity , what's this Duster's schedulled build date ?
If it's "A21" , that's be very interesting !

on the door it's 11/73,i'll look on the tender fag in the am.according to the info locomotion posted 75 was a very low production year (1400 somthing) and the last for the 360 inna duster.

and the last for the 360 inna duster.

I think '75 was the last year for the Duster & Dart Sport 360 as a separate model. In '76 it would have just been a car with a 360 installed. Also you could have gotten a 360 in any a-body that year, correct me if I'm wrong.

Man that looks like its in quite a bit better condition than my 74 360 Duster when I got mine.....

congrats! rare Duster indeed.

Here is what I have been quoted as production numbers for these:

VS29L4

3 speed...... 318 made

4 speed...... 586 made

Auto......... 2,975 made

Total........ 3,879 out of 277,409 1974 Dusters

:burnout:

You're right ; almost 100% spot-on .
The 360 was available in the Dart Sport (LL29) , Duster (VL29 / VH29) , and the "A38" Valiant (VL41) and Dart (LL41) .

It was rated at 220 hp ; TorqueFlite only ; NO catalytic converters (!!).
While this combo was available in Ca , it was straddled with a single exhaust and a catalytic converter ; its rating was 195 hp.
Thanks to **** *** Jerry Brown (yes , the same asshole that's been voted back into office by people with short memory spans ...) , even police cars had to meet emissions standards . This explains the emasculation of the 360 package in Ca.

Prior to Brown's ruination of California , police cars were exempt from Ca's ridiculous smog equipment and inspections (which have been proven as a 100% money grab).
The CHP used to order special cam grinds for their vehicles prior to Brown the *** Clown's liberal leadfist .

But , I divulge ...

Yes , the Dart Sport 360 (LM29L) Duster 360 (VS29L) models , as separate entities , disappeared ; however , as you've surmised , a 360 could be had in *virtually* any 1976 A Body ( no known Scamp nor Swinger models with a factory 360) .

..........I have a 74 duster 360 4 gear, a 75 duster 360 auto, and a 75 dart sport 360 4 gear.................all factory 360 hp cars...........kim........

I thought so, thanks for confirming that. I probably learned that from you lol! It would be real neat to find a '76 4 door dart with the 360 that's not a A38 police car.

thanks for all the input....my tender fag is a little rusty...butt there is a complete build sheet in the back seat against the foam with a bunch a crap between it and my eyeballs.

i think it'll buff out.

360 zat the machine shart now..had to bore due to rat piss,so im going back with kb190s.that should put a little more sack in it.

figured i'd post a couple a more pix.i'm bout to put the 360 back in and sell it.

The guy must be a Chebby guy. 4.11s Chebby gear

nah no chevy guy...he said he had a 71 gtx too,so he could have gotten em mixed up...he said somthing about a super trak pak.he said he traded a 69 road runner in on the 74 duster,but he says it was geared hi.i just think he got all the facts mixed up with all the cars....or he could be full of feces.

i just have too many mopars....i can't give them all the proper attention they need.

I can understand that, I had to send a rusty Valiant to the crusher recently because I just don't have the time/money/room to keep it.
