Installing the 10" drum brakes (from a 8.25 housing) on a freshly re-done 8.75/small bolt circle/ adjustable bearing axles. It appears the housing flange/axle flange to the axle is appx 1/4" too narrow.

I think I can find brake drums for the small bolt circle (1970) 8.75 rear and machine 1/4" off the plate/hardware that goes between the shoes that is interfering with the axle studs

any ideas on other remedies?

Thats your only option if you can't find small bp parts. The big bolt pattern axle's stick out 1/4 more than the small bp axle's.
Or you could go to BBP all round.

The 8-1/4 is large bolt pattern and wont work on the stock 8-3/4 A body small bolt pattern axle. Backing plate offset is wrong and the drum center register is too large.
