I have a 75 318 Scamp, whose smog pump I would like to remove. This car also has a cat converter. Do I run into any problems by simply removing the smog pump, and capping off the injector tubing between the Diverter valve and the check valve - there is a rubber hose connecting these. Thanks in advance!

Should be fine. I assume you have an air pump that has the plumbing that goes to the exhaust manifolds - since the the thing as you note has a check valve - it will be fine.

FYI chrysler used to sell some heavy flat stamped pieces intended for closing off the air inlet on each exh manifold. I bought a pair years ago, but have not used them yet. Take a look in the back issues of Mopar action regarding a gran fury or diplomat they tweaked, the part numbers are in that article, probably 5-10 years ago.

My top 6 reasons for removing the smog pump:

6) one less belt
5) one less part to break
4) it makes noise
3) reduce weight
2) reduce load on the engine
1) I need to replace the PS pump, so I'm in there anyway.
